The Social Capital Leader Newsletter: Lead the human way.

As a leader, you care (or should) about culture. And nothing builds an effective culture—a social construct—like social capital.

Every month we’ll illuminate tangible, useful leadership tidbits from ongoing research, research from my book, and my own experience that you can use in building and cashing in social capital as a primary means to more effectively—and morally—motivate and influence others. To move your efforts forward.

I'm convinced that building and using social capital is also the only way to influence others in a way that’s both moral and effective. It requires leaders to give agency to people—the most sustainable and effective way to engage and motivate your constituents. It also taps into our very humanity: we’ve evolved to prioritize social connections and we work on it all the time (the neuroscience around social connections is an important part of my book and often shows up in the newsletter). Plus, deciding to lead in a social world requires a leader to affirm that the world is in fact social—that is, not disconnected. And finding connections (as opposed to points of divergence) is something we need more of today, no doubt.

The format includes four repeating sections:

Owning Trust: Stop talking about it. Own it.

Social capital basically orbits around trust. Trust is both necessary to build social capital and it’s measured to determine social capital’s presence. Let's get real about owning trust, and stop just talking about it.

Social Leadership Mechanics: Leading with social capital.

Beyond developing trust, there are tangible, learnable skills that leaders who build and use social capital hone. We'll dive into these mechanics.

In The Wild: Making social capital real.

Illustrations, examples, results, and other tidbits that bring leading with social capital to life.

Templer Tantrums: Aaron’s Stuff

I write and talk about things from time to time. This is my place.
