I cut my professional teeth at Quark, Inc. where I presented and trained some of the world’s leading advertising and creative agencies on topics related to print and multimedia design and production workflow. Today I present as a keynote speaker, am an Affiliate Professor at The Metropolitan State University of Denver and previously at The University of Denver, sit on panels, and facilitate workshops on the topics of the social web, branding, the creative mind, and marketing and communication.

  • My most popular presentation is Leading in a Social World: an unexpected look at social media through the lens of leadership and strategy instead of tools and tactics.

    Did you know that consumers trust email marketing more than an update from a brand on social media? That’s right. The main ingredient in the malaise of our inbox, the bane of our digital lives, email marketing. (Social media does beat beloved banner ads when it comes to trust. So it’s got that going for it.)

    So why are some brands making hay on the social web? Because they aren’t marketing. Savvy brands know that social systems inherently reject marketing (if you’ve ever received a telemarketing call in the middle of a dinner party you know this to be true).

    Leading In A Social World is a high-level, leaders-only presentaion that aims to finally break open the discussion about our socially connected world into something meaningful and lasting. We need to stop wasting our effort and money by branding and marketing to groups who despise it. People in social systems are eager for us to lead them instead.

    Audiences leave with this knowledge:

    • How to develop specific leadership skills to build an opted-in social group.
    • Why  people successfully motivate others within social networks (and how they’re doing it).
    • How to use leadership acumen to build groups of people who love you, your brand, your cause.
